Long Wall Mount Starlink- How to Install your Starlink Dish on a Long Wall Mount

A long wall mount Starlink installation is one of the most critical steps in setting up your dish.

It enables you to position your dish in an exposed area, away from obstructions that can hinder signal reception.

Often you need to set the long wall mount for Starlink on your fascia board or external wall.

It is what we intend to cover in detail in this article.

Here are a few things you need to get right before installing your dish on a mount.

  1. Primarily, you need to choose an installation site free from obstructions. Starlink has an app obstruction tool to help you in this step.
  2. Also, it’s imperative to position the dish on the site you want to mount, albeit temporarily, for testing.
  3. Allow the dish to stay in this position for some time, preferably half a day. It will help the obstruction tool to scan the area for some time to confirm its suitability for a permanent installation.
  4. Clip your Starlink cable from the house’s interior to where you intend to mount the dish. For convenience, ensure you install a cable as long as possible to reach the dish area.

Find a Stud on the wall.

Finding a Stud.

You can mount your dish onto the fascia board or the exterior wall.

For the latter, finding a stud on the wall for the mount’s bolts to attach to is imperative.

This step requires you to run a stud finder over the area.

Once it detects the stud, it’ll give you a signal. Ensure you mark the location with a marking pencil.

Make a line on the Stud.

Place your spirit level on the earlier identified area and mark a vertical line on the wall.

The point you marked in the previous step with a pencil will help you make a perfect line.

Ideally, the line should be about six inches or longer.

Drill Pilot Holes

At this step, you’ll need your mounting template to help you identify the ideal positions for the pilot holes.

Place the mounting template’s holes on the line you made earlier, mark the part where you want to drill holes then remove it.

Now using your drill with the 5/32″ bit, make the holes in the wall on the earlier spots you marked.

Use Sealant

You must also apply silicon sealant to the holes to strengthen them. Alternatively, you can use a dap on the bolts, which will be as effective as the silicon sealant

Install the Top lag bolt.

Not plug in the top lag bolt using the socket wrench. A 1/2″ socket will be handy for this step as it will help you leave enough space to attach the wall mount.

Now place the long wall mount onto the top bolt lag. It should be straightforward, as the bolt lag is custom-made for the long wall mount.

Next, drive in the bottom lag bolt and tighten it. Do the same for the top bolt.

Route the Cable

Attach the dish before routing the cable from the house to the mount via the mount.

The cable from the house should pass from below the mount onto it to the dish.

Once satisfied with the cable positioning, place the mount’s bottom plate with the network cable passing through its slot.

Also, it’s imperative to clip your cable to ensure it doesn’t hang and preserve your wall’s aesthetic.

Connect your Router

A Router.

A Router.

Now connect your Starlink router to the dish via the cable. Earlier, we explained how to connect a cable from the house’s interior where the router is to the outside.

Now connect the router to power to confirm if it is working appropriately.

Allow the router to search for the available satellites before testing if it can connect to Starlink WIFI

Also, remember that Starlink dish stowing is essential in detecting the available satellites.

Hence, check if this functionality exists after connecting it to the long wall mount.

Otherwise, you’ll have trouble having a stable connection.

FAQs

Your Starlink app will notify you if there’s an issue with the dish’s movement on the long wall mount by giving an error message.

Hence, in such a case, the ideal remedy is to confirm if something is getting in its way of moving.

If the hindrance is quite pronounced, you must repeat the installation process.

The long wall mount measures 19 x 5 x 5.5 inches. It is a wall mount type, ideal for use on your exterior wall or fascia board.

The ideal Starlink dish location shouldn’t have any obstructions, such as trees or buildings nearby. So what should you do if your dish doesn’t have a clear sky view?

Let us look at respective scenarios depending on the level of obstruction.

Starlink Dish Obstructions Remedy
No detected obstructions after 12 hours. You don’t need to change the mounting position; this location is ideal. Hence, you can proceed to install the long wall mount.
There are slight obstructions after 12 hours. In this case, you need to change Starlink’s dish positioning slightly. The ideal position should be somewhat higher than the area you had initially positioned.
For instance, consider placing it closer to the rooftop if you had originally set it on the wall.
Heavy obstruction after 12 hours Consider shifting the dish to another side if your Starlink app detects pronounced obstructions.
You may also use an extension tool if all attempts to find a clear area are futile.

Conclusion

Installing a Starlink dish is easy, as we’ve explained in the article.

Simply assemble the mounting hardware and follow the steps we’ve provided.

The main upside of the mount is that it’ll significantly help your dish maximize signal reception, translating to a stronger internet connection.
