Short Wall Mount Starlink- Basic Starlink Wall Mount Installation

Short wall mount Starlink guide for those looking to set up their dish near the house.

You won’t benefit from the exemplary speeds the company offers if you don’t optimize your Starlink dish installation.

Also, avoid the allure of just setting it on the ground, as this hinders its line of sight with overhead satellites.

So what’s the solution? A short wall mount will do in most scenarios. Let’s see how it operates.

Table of Contents

It is a simple Starlink dish installation option on your house’s wall, preferably on its topmost part.

Thus, it eliminates the need to use a pipe or pole to elevate the dish as you simply drill it onto the exterior wall service via screws.

It is available from the company’s store at a low price, so it is affordable to most Starlink subscribers.

Also, anyone with basic carpentry/woodworking skills can attach this mount. If you are not an expert in either of these, we got you covered as we’ll cover all its installation steps.

Security Tips Before Installation

General Safety Measures

Don’t just commence installing the mount if you’re not conversant with the safety precautions we’ll list below.

  1. Disassemble everything from the power supply before beginning the mounting process. Why do we insist on this precaution? We’re simply shielding you from dish damage, as you will be liable for any malfunction resulting from installation negligence.

Immediately you connect power; the dish assumes that you want it to search for a nearby overhead satellite. So it will start rotating, and if it hits the wall surface, it may develop a dent or destroy one of its parts and no longer work.

  1. Let there be enough space and easy accessibility of your power sockets as you need to connect and disconnect the power supply regularly. If your socket is incompatible with Starlink, change it to match the standard.

Otherwise, you may hurt yourself trying to insert the power cord or damage its terminals. Again, Starlink will not refund you for this issue, so take charge before things get out of hand.

  1. You can make modifications here and there on the Starlink parts, but no matter what, keep the power systems intact. By this, we mean that you must stick to the provided adapter.

Contact them immediately if there is an issue with the parts Starlink delivers to you. The company is stringent on users connecting its provided components, and anytime you do otherwise, you risk injuring yourself and contravening contractual terms.

  1. The rule of thumb is that you must also exercise personal safety measures when dealing with the power components. For instance, don’t lay your cables all over the house or at points where your kid or pet can touch them.

In the same vein, keep the cables away from water as it is an excellent electricity conductor and can cause fatal accidents when there is a power issue.

  1. Lastly, although Starlink will work in any weather, you’ll risk a lot if everything is powered on when it is excessively windy or heavily raining.

Therefore, you’d rather forego using the internet when the weather is terrible as there’s the risk of electric shock under such conditions.

Personal Safety Measures

  1. This installation is simple, but discarding general safety precautions means you risk hurting yourself. You’ll need to do some drilling, which means materials will fly out of the wall toward you. So wear safety gear like gloves, goggles, and a mask if necessary.
  2. Next, when drilling a wall, you risk piercing water pipes, so you must identify their location first. Also, keep away from studs and, most importantly, electric power lines, as perforating them can be fatal.
  3. Lastly, don’t just drill carelessly because you may make unnecessary or larger-than-necessary holes. Make just the necessary hole diameter, and seal off the sides with a gel sealant. Otherwise, the holes will keep expanding and ultimately render the screws loose.

Lightening Protection Precautions

Lightening and Stormy weather.

  1. Have a lightning arrestor in place, especially in areas prone to stormy weather. This is because lightning may run down through your dish, and this will destroy it.
  2. Also, do you experience power surges, especially during inclement weather? If you do, you must install a surge protector, as this can cause irreparable damage to your Starlink electronic parts.
  3. Finally, as earlier cautioned, don’t leave Starlink connected to power during stormy/windy weather. In addition to the risk of lightning strikes, the dish may smash against the wall and have permanent damage.

App Installation

  1. First, find the best position on the Starlink wall mount because your signal will be poor if you get this wrong. We encourage you to use a Starlink app, which accurately detects obstacles in the dish line of sight.
  2. Search different areas around your house for the ideal mounting area. You will need a ladder for this step as, ideally, you must climb on the roof, which is the perfect part of installing a dish on the house.

Mount Installation Procedure

Now let’s get to the most essential bit of this article.

Before we commence, remember we cautioned earlier against installing when your dish is connected to power.

Hence, start by disassembling the Starlink parts or disconnecting the power cord from its socket.

Next, continue with the steps below:

  1. Know where the studs are on the wall and where to install the mount bolts for a firm connection. You can use a stud finder for this task or knock gently on the wall with a hammer to locate the harder parts.
  2. Ideally, the mount should be above a stud. Therefore, after narrowing down on an ideal installation location, place the mount base on the wall and trace where the holes should pass. At this juncture, use a spirit level to ensure the mount is perpendicular to the wall’s surface to ensure it doesn’t wobble after connection.
  3. Next, make holes in the marked areas using a drill bit. As cautioned earlier, take care not to pierce larger holes than necessary. If you do this by mistake, applying the silicone sealant will come in handy in reducing the hole diameter to the desired size.
  4. It is now time to drive in the bolts on the mount. You should also ensure you tighten the bolts, as a shaky mount will be a massive liability to the dish signal reception in windy weather.
  5. Next, run the cable from the top of the mount to the interior router via the underside of the mount. It is imperative to fix this cable in a slightly taut state via wall clips but take caution not to overstretch it. Also, take caution when bending the wires at points where you want to navigate corners on the wall.
  6. Confirm that the mount is firm and connect the dish by fixing it on the top part of the mount after confirming that the stricture is now sturdy. It should never touch the wall while rotating. Otherwise, you risk damaging it.
  7. Finally, connect the power cord to your socket, which should ideally be inside the house, then allow Starlink to connect. If you are vigilant enough in choosing an ideal mount location, your Starlink will connect within a short time, and after setting up the basics, you can start accessing the internet.

What makes Starlink unique is that in addition to giving customers the best satellite internet, the company also grants many mounting options.

This is just one of them; executing it will be bliss if you follow every step of our guide.
